Prague (Praha) is one of the least "eastern"
European cities you could imagine. Architecturally it is a revelation:
few other cities anywhere in Europe look so good - and no other
European capital can present six hundred years of architecture
so completely untouched by natural disaster or war. Hardly surprising,
then, that ninety percent of Western visitors spend all their
time in and around the capital and that Praguers exude an air
of confidence about their city.
Optional Tours Are Available:
Dinner Cruise on the Vltava River
Tonight, view Prague, the famous "city of a hundred spires,"
from the Vltava River. Arguably the best manner in which to see
the city, this evening's river cruise offers illuminated views
of some of Prague's most historic and artistic architecture along
the Vltava banks. The cruise also includes a buffet-style dinner
and musical entertainment on board.
Grand City Tour of Prague
This morning, travel by coach to view some of Prague's
most important historical buildings, including the National Theatre,
Charles Bridge, Belvedere, Loreta, Prague Castle, Lesser Town,
The House of Artists, and Old Town Square: a 12th-century marketplace,
noted for its beautiful Baroque and Gothic-style structures. Continue
by foot to view the Prague Castle area and St. Vitus' Cathedral,
where the remains of several Bohemian Kings are interred. .
Kutna Hora
Just an hour drive outside of Prague lies the medieval town of
Kutna Hora. Built on an extensive silver ore field, Kutna Hora
became the second most significant town in the Czech Republic
during the 13th century. The city's principal landmark, the rare
Church of St. Barbara, ranks among the world's most dramatic basilicas,
exemplifying late Gothic architecture in Bohemia. On this tour,
you'll experience the exterior grandeur of the church on a panoramic
tour of the city. You'll walk the "little Charles bridge"
to the Old Mint and the Ossuary, where legend has it that a handful
of earth from Christ's grave was brought to Sedlec and scattered
over the Ossuary, thus turning it into a pilgrimage site for believers
from all over Central Europe.
Cesky Krumlov
This morning, travel through the picturesque landscape
of Southern Bohemia for Cesky Krumlov, a small city situated at
the fjord of the Vltava River. Declared by UNESCO a World Heritage
Site in 1992, Cesky Krumlov has earned an international reputation
for its State Castle and Chateau, one of the largest and best
preserved in Central Europe. Upon arrival, you'll tour the city
and visit* the castle and chateau as well as the historic Old
Town, home to more than three-hundred buildings in the Gothic,
Baroque and Renaissance styles. Afterwards, continue to the city
of Ceske Budejovice to see it's historic square, home to the famous
Black Tower and other 16th-century structures.
